Jakarta, PENA – Learning from UK Closing Landfills, GMPI Ready as Partner for DKI Jakarta Government to Overcome 500 Ton/Day Waste Emergency

Jakarta, Media – The UK’s experience in closing final disposal sites (TPA) and converting waste into fuel is exactly what Jakarta needs today and in the future.

“The Jakarta Waste Emergency Team initiated by community empowerment organization Indonesian Community Care Movement (GMPI) is interested as partner with DKI Jakarta Government to overcome waste,” said Secretary General of GMPI Drs. Risman Thomas, MAP, MM.

Since closure of Bantar Gebang TPA August 2026 and previously I attended socialization of Governor Instruction No.5/2026 on Organic, Inorganic, Residue waste segregation delivered by Council Member Yuke Yurike in Cipedak Village Jagakarsa South Jakarta July 2026.

“Segregation socialization I implemented with DKI Jakarta Cleanliness Agency in 2014 but had not touched Fuel from waste, RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel),” said Risman.

In fact GMPI in 2016 already studied organic, inorganic waste into fuel called RDF. When Bantar Gebang closed early August, GMPI team observed residential waste at UPRS V Pesakih West Jakarta.

From there idea emerged to collect waste that can be processed into Fuel from waste (RDF). Three elements must be studied: Legislator, Operator and Investor. GMPI board informed one Investor asked to help overcome Waste Emergency in Jakarta.

On 7 September 2026* GMPI team wrote letter to *Governor Pramono Anung via South Jakarta Environmental Sub-Agency. GMPI team needs DKI Government idle land in several places. “We need land, contracted ok, purchased ok, for period 20-30 years,” said Secretary General Risman Thomas seriously.

Active communication and coordination with community leaders in Jagakarsa area, one community leader Mr. Herman also RW Chairman preparing waste 300 + 500 ton/day daily.

As pilot waste project in Jagakarsa area can accommodate up to *500 ton/day* involving Pasar Minggu and Cilandak South Jakarta. From three needed elements, Investor ready, operator ready with waste.

According to Risman we need land from Local Government and waste permit to be accommodated in bulk and processed by GMPI with 30 sorters and 8 core team* completing Legislator, operator and Investor.

Unfortunately related agencies such as Environmental Agency and letter to Governor Pramono Anung have no answer and response yet because what we need is idle land unused and permit from DKI Jakarta Government.

“We from GMPI team have received direction from Investor and cooperation with German company. We hope to partner and support DKI Jakarta Government in completing waste emergency in Jakarta, especially pilot project location Jagakarsa,” said Herman as Chairman of Legislator and operator.

GMPI Secretary General Risman who persistently monitors letter to Governor Pramono and Provincial LH officials until now silent thousand words and seems not yet connected.

“We are ready to accommodate waste in 5 regions for *RDF 40%, Organic 30% and Inorganic 30% from 8,000 ton/day waste product* in five administrative cities of Jakarta.

Funds to pay land for waste accommodation prepared. Land contract 5 years determined by DKI Jakarta Government. Period 20-30 years land can be paid,” said Risman frankly.
